Improving efficiency of feed utilization in growing cattle can be profitable. A 2014 study showed genomic tests for traits in feed efficiency and bovine respiratory disease, have an economic advantage over routine collection of costly phenotypes. Genetic selection for efficiency remains an untapped source of potential improvement.
