Cattle are not 100 percent efficient in converting feed energy to gain. On average 6 percent of ingested energy is eructated as methane. Angus, Charolais, Hereford, Gelbvieh, Red Angus and composite breed cattle were studied for rumen microbiology, nutrient digestibility, diet types, mitochondrial processes and greenhouse gases.
