The independent grocery store remains a primary, and sometimes only, source for a variety of foods in rural areas, but unfortunately there are many food deserts across the US. This report highlights current conditions for independent grocers to function as points of food access across Iowa for locally sourced products. Findings include strengths, challenges, and opportunities for independent grocers and food producers.
