Common Milkweed germination seeds packet

This educational resource is no longer available.

These Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) seeds, collected in Iowa last fall (2019), were cold-stratified this spring to use with the REAP Milkweed Growing Project. These seeds were to be used during Monarch and Native Bee programming this summer.

Due to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the project was not conducted in K-12 schools as planned. Some of the common milkweed seeds have started germinating and need to be planted as soon as possible. These seed packets are being offered to you at no cost. Simply pay a nominal postage fee during checkout.

There are approximately 100 seeds in each package. The seeds were cold-stratified using vermiculite as stated in page 2 of the supplemental brochure. These seeds are now being offered to you at no cost. Plant the seeds in trays and inserts (plugs), pots, or evenly distribute on the ground.

We would love to hear how many plants you have planted. Zoom virtual meetings for additional and personal guidance for the cold-stratification process or planting recommendations are available. Send comments, pictures, and request for Zoom meetings to lynnec@iastate.edu.
